UF-hosted conference to include NASA official, Nobel Prize winners

WHAT: The University of Florida will host the 24th International Conference on Low Temperature Physics, to be attended by 1,200 scientists, researchers and others, including at least four Nobel Prize winners, NASA‘s chief engineer and a member of the board that investigated the Columbia shuttle accident.
WHEN: The conference will be held Aug. 11-17, 2005.

BACKGROUND: This is one of the largest international physics conferences in the world. Public lectures on Aug. 12 will include Professor Douglas D. Osheroff of Stanford University, who was a member of the Columbia Accident Investigation Board. Osheroff will talk about the Columbia Shuttle accident. It starts at 8 p.m. Rex Geveden, NASA’s chief engineer, will talk about “Gravity Probe B: Testing Einstein’s Theory” at 9 p.m. Friday. 2005 is the Year of Einstein.
