UF Alumni Association to aid Hurricane Katrina victims
September 1, 2005
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gator Nation is banding together to lend its support to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The University of Florida Alumni Association will sell Gator Nation wrist bands at the Gator Nation Tailgate, beginning three hours before each home football game this fall. The event takes place at Emerson Alumni Hall, on University Avenue directly across from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Sales will begin this Saturday.
The orange and blue wrist bands will be sold for $5 a pair. All monies collected will be sent directly to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts. The Alumni Association will also accept cash donations for the Red Cross.
“We wanted to instantly create an opportunity for the Gator Nation to express its concern for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and to help fund the relief efforts of the Red Cross,” said Randy Talbot, executive director of the UF Alumni Association. “With so many friends and alumni in town for the football games, we saw this as an immediate answer to calls for help.”
Emerson Alumni Hall is located at 1938 W. University Ave. For more information, visit www.ufalumni.ufl.edu.
