Museum offers new Saturday classes for children

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Museum of Natural History will offer new classes this fall for children in grades 1-2 and grades 6-8.

The museum is offering two classes for sixth- through eighth-graders. The first class, “I Ink. Therefore I Am,” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. The second class, “InDIDGenous
Instruments: From Didgeridoos to Rainsticks Too, Nature and People Bring Us Music,” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. The nature-related classes will cover topics from inking squids and stinking skunks to didgeridoos and rainsticks.

The cost of these classes is $30 for Florida Museum members and $36 for nonmembers per class.

The class for first- and second-graders, “Maya and the Big Pumpkin Balloon Ride,” will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. During this story-based adventure, children will illustrate story pages as Maya rides a pumpkin balloon to Mexico to witness the magical Monarch butterfly migration. Participants also will visit the Butterfly Rainforest and learn some butterfly biology.

The cost of this class is $15 for Florida Museum members and $20 for non-members, plus a $4 lab fee.
