Florida Museum home-school classes focus on fossils
January 23, 2006
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida will offer a four-week home-school class series titled “Fossils: Clues from the Past” from 10 a.m. to noon on Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20 for children ages 7-11.
The class will explore the Florida Museum Fossil Hall exhibition, which includes many fossils found within 100 miles of Gainesville.
Participants will discover the creatures that lived in the state of Florida millions of years ago and how paleontologists dig up clues to literally uncover the past. Students also have the chance to learn how fossils form by making their own fossils — without waiting millions of years to see the results.
The cost of the four-week session is $60 for Florida Museum members and
$72 for nonmembers. Pre-registration is required. For more information, call (352) 846-2000, ext. 277 or visit http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/education/home_school.htm.
