Media credentials to be required at Spike Lee speech

January 24, 2006

All news media representatives attending the University of Florida speech by filmmaker Spike Lee on Feb. 1 in the O’Connell Center will be required to show press credentials in order to gain access to the media/press area.

These credentials must be official identification badges issued by their media organization or business cards from established media organizations accompanied by photo identification.

In addition, videotaping, audio taping and photography will be permitted only for the first five minutes of the lecture.

Media representatives should enter the O’Connell Center through the press door at Gate 1 and check in on the main floor at the press area, which will be marked. The doors to the event open at 7 p.m., and all media must be in the press area by 8 p.m.

Press and camera bags will be allowed only in the media/press area and will be searched upon entering the O’Connell Center. Use of cameras and camera equipment is restricted to the media/press area.

Due to heightened security, live broadcasts from inside the O’Connell Center will not be allowed. Outlets wanting to do live broadcasts from outside the center should contact Darius Dunn at (352) 392-5500.
