Celebrating their 80th anniversary, the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters are bringing their 2006 “Unstoppable” North American Tour to the University of Florida.

Sponsored by Western Union, the Globetrotters will take the court on March 7 against the New York Nationals at the O’Connell Center. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $12 and are available by phone at (352) 392-1653 or on-line at Ticketmaster.com and at all area Ticketmaster outlets.

“As we celebrate our 80th consecutive season of touring North America in 2006, the Globetrotters have put together something very special for the fans who have supported the team now for nine decades,” said Globetrotters’ Owner & Chairman, Mannie Jackson. “’Unstoppable’ represents both the energy and commitment of the players to give the fans something special. We look forward to bringing that energy to Albany.”

Living up to their billing as ‘Ambassadors of Goodwill,’ the Globetrotters will continue their traditions:

Since their inception in 1927, the Harlem Globetrotters have traveled to 117 nations, played before 123 million fans, won championships and built bridges between people and communities around the world, making them virtually “Unstoppable” for nearly 80 years.

In 2002, the organization was only the fifth team to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame; followed by an induction into the Black Sports and Entertainment Hall of Fame and the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame. They have also been recognized as the most popular sports team by the 2002, 2000 and 1999 Q Ratings.
