Barbara Wingo named interim general counsel, effective April 1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Barbara Wingo has been named the University of Florida’s interim vice president and general counsel effective April 1, UF President Bernie Machen announced today.
Wingo currently is UF’s associate vice president and deputy general counsel. She will succeed Pamela Bernard, who has accepted a position as vice president and general counsel at Duke University effective July 1.
Wingo joined the UF Office of the General Counsel in 1983 and has practiced there in all areas of university law. She also has been an adjunct member of the department of history since 1982.
Before coming to UF, she taught U.S. history at Southern Methodist University and the University of Houston.
She received her law degree from Southern Methodist University, where she was inducted into the Order of the Coif. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in history from Tulane University and her bachelor’s degree in history from Stanford University.
Wingo is admitted to practice in all state courts in Florida and Texas, as well as the Northern and Middle District Courts of Florida, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
