'Sopranos' actress to speak at Reitz Student Union March 23

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Jamie-Lynn Sigler, actress and author, will speak at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 23, in the Reitz Student Union Rion Ballroom at the University of Florida. Her visit is free and open to the public. Sigler’s appearance is co-sponsored by ACCENT Speakers Bureau, Women’s History Month 2006 and Jewish Awareness Month. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Sigler, who started acting at 7, has played Meadow Soprano on the hit HBO series, “The Sopranos,” since 1999. Season six of “The Sopranos” debuted March 12. A survivor of anorexia, Sigler’s story of her battle with an eating disorder, “Wise Girl,” was published in 2002 to rave reviews. Currently a spokesperson for the National Eating Disorders Association, Sigler regularly speaks across the country educating people about the dangers of eating disorders.
The Women’s History Month Committee, in partnership with the Women’s Leadership Council and Dean of Students Office, will develop and promote many exciting events this month. Women’s History Month is a vehicle for acknowledging, celebrating and focusing on the accomplishments and contributions of women in society.
