Gatorade creator Robert Cade special guest for Gator Day

WHAT: Gator Day 2006
WHEN: Wednesday, April 5 – 9 a.m. –
WHERE: Capitol Building, Tallahassee
BACKGROUND: Gator Day is the University of Florida’s annual showcase during the legislative session, and activities are scheduled throughout the day on the Capitol Building’s second, third and 22nd floors. This year’s event will feature:
- Gatorade creator J. Robert Cade – This year’s special guest is J. Robert Cade. As a young new member of the UF faculty in the early 1960s, Cade was looking for a way to keep football players hydrated during games when he and his team hit on the formula that came to be called Gatorade – the world’s first sports drink. Now 78, Cade, a professor emeritus of nephrology, still drinks a glass of Gatorade every day.
- Research – Booths will be on display through mid-afternoon and will feature UF research in fields such as citrus canker, Florida’s fragile water supply, robotics, veterinary medicine and dentistry.
- Reception – A reception for Gators friends and faithful begins at 5 p.m. on the 22nd floor.
