President Machen honors 30 students for community service

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In recognition of their outstanding service to the community, 30 University of Florida students were recognized by President Bernie Machen with the President’s Service Awards at the University of Florida’s Excellence in Service reception hosted by Machen Thursday night.
Machen and the Center for Leadership and Service created the University of Florida President’s Service Awards to recognize the valuable contributions student volunteers make in the community.
Students who demonstrated a commitment to volunteerism by completing 100 hours of community service for the fall term of the 2005-2006 academic year were recognized. Recipients were recognized for their contributions as leaders who have contributed significant time serving the community in the categories of youth achievement, environment and community enhancement, health and community building, and public safety and emergency response.
The student recipients were Justin Farge, Gavin Goodall, Larissa Pallo, Nicole Kendra Levine, Pouya Abdollahzadeh, Sherrelle Harrell, Nicole Motter, Jody-Ann Greenwood, Nora Kern, Faith Allen, Taylor Gilliland, Ben Harrell, Elizabeth Gentry, Magda Derisma, Abby Hunter, Vanessa Frisby, Vanessa Lang, Alana Rush, Dina Rubio, Marie Poulard,Roshni Baldeo, Jade Marcus, Adrian Gonzalez, Michelle Santos, Sabrina Khalani, Cherice Smithers, Priya Palta, Divya Arora, Nicole Varma and Paul Perrin.
Together, these students completed more than 4,260 hours of community service. Of the award recipients, Santos was selected as the overall Outstanding Servant-Leader for 2005-2006.
