Changing the Face of Medicine
August 28, 2006
The Health Science Center Libraries invite all interested faculty, staff and students to the Aug. 30 opening of “Changing the Face of Medicine,” a special exhibition from the National Library of Medicine.
This multimedia exhibition tells the story of women’s struggle for the right to study and practice medicine in the United States. Several events involving participants from the six HSC colleges will celebrate the many ways women have influenced and enhanced all areas of health science and healthcare. Here is the schedule:
From 3 to 5 p.m.: Welcoming remarks from UF’s Dr. Rebecca Pauly, one of only two Florida women featured in the exhibition, and Vivian Filer, one of the College of Nursing’s earliest black graduates. Reception, food and drinks on 1st floor of the Gainesville HSC Library, by the exhibition.
From 5 to 6:30 p.m.: Deans’ Roundtable, HPNP Auditorium. All HSC college deans will speak briefly about “The Changing Face of Health Science,” particularly regarding the rise and prominence of women in their professions; UF Provost Janie Fouke will then moderate a discussion with the deans.
Additional events and lectures are scheduled through the month of September, as part of 50th anniversary celebrations for the HSC Libraries and Office of the Senior Vice President, Health Affairs. All events and lectures are free and open to the public. However, since space is limited for some events, we ask you to please preregister online at the library’s Web site. A full schedule of events and preregistration form is at www.library.health.ufl.edu, or please contact Ned Davis at ned@library.health.ufl.edu or call 352-392-2362.
