NCAA peer review team on campus for recertification process

October 17, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The NCAA Peer Review Team is on the University of Florida campus today and Wednesday as part of the University Athletic Association’s participation in the NCAA Division I Self-Study Certification process.

Team chairman Robert W. Lawless, former president of the University of Tulsa, will be available to talk to reporters at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Touchdown Terrace, room 115, in the north end zone of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. He will be available again after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Touchdown Terrace Foyer to discuss the certification process.

UAA does not expect to know the outcome of the self-study process and re-certification until March.

UAA achieved full certification in 1998, and the interim self-study process in 2002 reaffirmed the certified status. This second cycle looks again at the following areas: academic integrity, governance and rules compliance, and equity and student-athlete welfare.
