Pride Awareness Month features Rich Kiamco performance
April 6, 2007
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In celebration of Pride Awareness Month 2007, Pride Student Union presents Rich Kiamco at 8 p.m. April 9 in the Reitz Student Union Grand Ballroom.
Kiamco is both a comedian and a teacher to his audience and has performed at other universities including Princeton. As a high school student, he embraced the New Romantics of the ’80s and dressed like Duran Duran. When he came out to his parents, they told him that they loved him and would find a cure. Bucking his parents’ dreams of having a doctor in the family, he followed his own dreams to the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Kiamco’s one-man show “Unaccessorized,” a highly physical autobiography of coming out in the cornfields of Illinois, won the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival’s Overall Excellence Award for a Solo Performance.
ACCENT, the Asian American Student Union and Student Government are co-sponsoring the event.
