HHP dean receives ASHA's William A. Howe Award

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Steve Dorman, dean of the College of Health and Human Performance will receive the 2007 William A. Howe Award at the American School Health Association national convention being held July 9-13, 2007, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Howe Award represents the highest honor bestowed by ASHA. The award recognizes Dorman for his outstanding leadership and advocacy for child and adolescent health programs through schools. Dorman has served as a consultant and invited participant on numerous federal panels and work groups related to school health programs. He also has worked extensively with private organizations, such as the American Cancer Society, on activities related to school health.
His involvement with ASHA includes serving on the board of directors, as chair for the Editorial Board, and as a peer review panel member and technology feature editor for the Journal of School Health. The association previously recognized Dorman with its national Distinguished Service Award, and he also was named a Fellow of the Association.
In addition to acknowledging his professional accomplishments, the Howe Award also recognizes Dorman’s reputation among colleagues for his personal attributes of integrity, fairness, optimism and devotion to family.
The William A. Howe Award, the association’s highest honor, recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions and distinguished service in school health. Presented in memory of Dr. William A. Howe, a founder and first president of the association, the award acknowledges the recipient’s outstanding professional contributions paralleling the aims and objectives of the association.
