Catch them while you can—three Harn exhibitions closing in January
January 4, 2008
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Harn Museum of Art has delighted fans with original exhibitions this fall that come to a close in January: “From Dürer to Renoir,” “Photographic Formalities” and “The Ceramics of Toshiko Takaezu.”
“From Dürer to Renoir ” and “Photographic Formalities” will be on view through Jan. 6. “From Dürer to Renoir” features 40 European prints from the late 15th through the 18th centuries from the Harn’s collection. Because of their sensitivity to light, works on paper can only be on view for 12 months out of any 5-year period, thus visitors have delighted in viewing the rarely seen prints by famed artists including Francisco Goya, Pierre-August Renoir and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. “Photographic Formalities: From Ansel Adams to Weegee” features 220 photographs by 77 modernist photographers, on loan from a private Florida family collection.
“The Ceramics of Toshiko Takaezu” will be on view through Jan. 20, featuring 15 gifts from the celebrated ceramic artist, and given to the Harn Museum in memory of Caroline J. Rister, a long-time friend of the artist who passed away in May 2007.
In late January, Harn staff will begin preparing for the monumental exhibition, “Paradigms and the Unexpected: Modern and Contemporary Art from the Shey Collection,” which will consume its three rotating galleries and other areas of the museum beginning Feb. 10.
