Florida Gym reopened following bomb threat
March 4, 2008
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University police this afternoon evacuated Florida Gym as a precaution after receiving a phoned-in bomb threat.
The call came into the police department’s Combined Communication Center about 2 p.m., said Police Chief Linda Stump. Officer responded immediately. Following standard procedure, law enforcement and university administration determined quickly that the matter involved only one building and the threat was not credible enough to activate the university’s emergency communication plan.
Police using a trained dog searched the building and began allowing people back into the building about 4 p.m. after determining no bomb existed, Stump said.
