April 29, 2008
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida Professor emerita and featured artist Evon Streetman will present a gallery talk in the exhibition “Highlights from the Photography Collection: University of Florida’s Photographic Legacy” at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Streetman, who taught at UF from 1977 to 1999, will discuss her multimedia works displayed in the permanent collection exhibition and discuss how she seamlessly merges painting and drawing into photographic illusions.
The University of Florida has been an important academic center for creative photography since the 1960s, especially noted for the experimental and innovative work of its faculty and students. This exhibition of approximately 40 works features the collection’s strong holding of some key internationally acclaimed artists, including former UF faculty Ken Kerslake, Jerry Uelsmann, Todd Walker and Evon Streetman, as well as current faculty Sergio Vega, Barbara Jo Revelle, Andrea Robbins and Max Becher, and UF graduates Robert Fichter and Maggie Taylor, among others.
“Highlights from the Photography Collection” was made possible by J. Dustin Curbow and Paul D. Zirakian of Citigroup SmithBarney.
