GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida doctoral student Patricia Roset-Zuppa is the recipient of the ING Clarion “Most Outstanding Article Award” given by the Cornell Real Estate Review, a student-edited and managed real estate journal. The award is given each year to the student with the most distinguished article that appears in the Review.
Roset-Zuppa’s article, “Curbing the Loss of Affordable Rental Housing in Florida, A Risk Assessment Approach,” was selected among submissions by graduate students from around the world.
“We received more submissions this year than last, on topics ranging from predicting mortgage prepayment to legal analyses of the development process,” according to Rachel Wilson, Executive Editor of the Review. “Out of all (the submissions), Patricia’s risk analysis of affordable housing options in Florida stood out as impeccably researched and very clearly written.”
Roset-Zuppa’s article focuses on the preservation of the affordability of subsidized rental housing in Florida. It describes the creation of an assisted housing database.
“The need for affordable rental housing continues to grow, but this housing stock is dwindling due to expiring subsidies and physical deterioration. Through the database, we can look at the property characteristics as an approach to identify properties most at risk of loss, which can help steer preservation policy and funding,” said Roset-Zuppa, who is pursuing her doctoral degree in design, construction and planning and serves as a research and policy analyst at UF’s Shimberg Center for Affordable Housing.
The Cornell Real Estate Review is an annual journal providing a conduit for scholars, professional practitioners and students to express ideas, concepts and research findings from all fields related to the real estate profession. Roset-Zuppa’s article will be published in the upcoming edition of the Cornell Real Estate Review and all of the finalists’ articles will be available from the CRER website at www.crer.realestate.cornell.edu.
