GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida’s Gatorettes, the twirling dancers of the UF Gator Band, won two national titles last week at the National Baton Twirling Association’s USA and World Twirling Championships. The competition was held at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind.
The Gatorettes, under the direction of instructor June Stoeber, won the National Collegiate Show-Twirl Title, and they were co-champions of the National Collegiate Halftime Show Championship.
“I’m very proud of the accomplishments of these fine, young ladies” said Jay Watkins, director of the Gator Band. “They have worked for this every week since we started our season last August, and this is a great tribute to their perseverance and to June Stoeber’s leadership, creativity and teaching.”
The two national championship trophies were put on display in the new Steinbrenner Band Hall on Tuesday July 29.
This is the Gatorettes fifth National Collegiate Title under Stoeber’s instruction.
