Schipper named associate dean of Technology and Support Services

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Rachel Schipper has been named the new associate dean of Technology and Support Services at the University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries.
Schipper began the position on March 30. She leads seven diverse units within the UF library system, including acquisitions, metadata and cataloging, access support, digital services, preservation and conservation, information and technology, and facilities and security.
Throughout her 20 years in public and private higher education settings, Schipper has worked for libraries at Pennsylvania State University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, Florida Institute of Technology and Shepherd University. She was the dean of the Library and Instructional Technology Center at Georgia College and State University for the past four years.
In 2007, Schipper was named the Liaison of the Year by the Consortium of Negotiation and Conflict Resolution and was awarded a full IMLS scholarship to Vanderbilt’s Peabody Professional Institute for Library Leadership. Additionally, she received the Georgia governor’s Silver Medal Team Award for Customer Services for 2007/2008. In 2004, she completed the ACRL/ Harvard Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians.
