August 28, 2009
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — It is not easy to survive as an artist, especially during today’s challenging economic times. “JumpstART II: Going Solo! A Workshop in Creative Entrepreneurship” will be held at 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at The Harn Museum of Art. The workshop is open to students and community members to equip artists with the tools and skill sets needed to endure the demanding marketplace.
JumpstART II is a full-day workshop that engages participants with interactive discussions, lectures and activities, allowing for the exchange of ideas and building of networks among aspiring artists, local artists and entrepreneurs. Much of the workshop’s discussion and activities will focus on entrepreneurial topics such as business planning, marketing and fundraising.
Terri Lonier, workshop presenter, is president of Working Solo, Inc., and is a recognized authority on the small office/home office (SOHO) market and entrepreneurship. She has been a business owner, consultant, author and adviser to solo professionals for more than 20 years. Lonier received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Florida in 1976.
Lonier’s lecture will be followed by specialized panel discussions hosted by successful local artists including Scott Wilson, Margaret Ross Tolbert, and Nina Cameron.
The cost for regular registration is $75, students $60. In addition, a scholarship is available for the first 30 students to register. This includes morning coffee, lunch and a copy of Terri Lonier’s book “Working Solo.” For more information, and to register, visit www.cba.ufl.edu/fire/entrepreneurship/cei/jumpstart.asp.
