UF, fishing team presented with more than $75,000 and new truck, boat

A presentation in celebration of the University of Florida winning the National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship was held at 11 a.m. on Friday April 30 at the Reitz Union Colonnade/North Lawn Terrace.
Gator Bassmasters team members, UF students Jake Gipson and Matt Wercinski, were presented with a “Gatorized” Suburban, Ranger bass boat and $25,000 check for the Gator Bassmasters Club. Mascots Albert and Alberta handed over the boat and Suburban keys to Jake and Matt as part of the ceremony.
In addition, President Bernie Machen was presented with a $50,000 check for the university. Of the total $50,000, $40,000 will be allocated to the Florida Opportunity Scholars program, and $10,000 will be allocated to the Student Emergency Fund, a program of the Office of Student Affairs.
The competition, sponsored by the National Guard and FLW Outdoors, was held at Fort Loudoun Lake in Knoxville, Tenn., on April 12. A full news release is available at .
