GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Four University of Florida students have received Fulbright U.S. Student Scholarships to travel abroad for the 2010-2011 academic year in their chosen field of study. The scholarship provides funding for graduating seniors and graduate students to spend an academic year in one of more than 155 participating countries.
Here are the students, their hometowns, fields of study and host countries:
- Victor Albert: St. Petersburg, Russia, physics/mathematics, Canada
- Alison Ketter: Norman, Okla., anthropology, South Africa
- Amy Schwartzott: Buffalo, N.Y., art history, Mozambique
- Allison Sullivan: Parkland, Fla., political science/economics, South Korea
The Fulbright program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. Fulbright scholarships are based on academic or professional achievements and demonstrated leadership potential. Grants are awarded in nearly all fields and disciplines including the sciences, professional fields and performing arts.
“We are proud of this year’s group of Fulbright Scholars and very pleased with UF’s continued success with the Fulbright grant program,” said John Denny, UF Honors Program associate director. “These students’ success is a testament to their creativity and curiosity as well as their outstanding preparation they’ve had from their faculty mentors.”
