Group offers chance to learn more about Quran
September 10, 2010
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Islam on Campus, a student-run organization at the University of Florida, will host Quran 101, an information session to answer questions about the religious text of Islam, on Monday.
Muslims around the world view the Quran as a divine guide for mankind. Sheik Faraz Rabbani, a renowned Muslim scholar in North America, will head the event. Rabbani is a researcher and teacher of the Islamic sciences, specializing in Islamic law. The recent publicity in Gainesville surrounding the scheduled burning of the Quran has sparked discussion about the text.
The lecture and information session will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Reitz Student Union Grand Ballroom, and doors will open at 6 p.m.
