Florida Players brings Robots to UF
October 22, 2010
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Looking for something different to do this weekend? How about something free? Florida Players, University of Florida’s student-run theater group, is opening its fall season with “Robots vs. Fake Robots” at 8 p.m. today.
“Robots,” written by David Largman Murray and directed by UF Master of Fine Arts candidate Amelia Harris, is a post-apocalyptic, dark comedy set in the year 6000 that follows the journey of Joe, a human posing as a superhuman robot, as he makes his way through the underground.
According to Harris, the show has sexy dancing and plenty of action.
“There’s funny dialogue, there’s violence and a good story,” she said.
“Robots” is a new work and has been performed in a limited number of venues across the country. Harris met the author of “Robots” while studying playwriting at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and wanted to bring the show to Florida.
Performances will be held in the Philips Center for the Performing Arts’ Squitieri Studio Theatre at 8 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday with matinees at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets are free to everyone and are available online at
