November 16, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In recognition of International Education Week through Friday, the Florida Museum of Natural History is offering University of Florida employees and students a $6 combination ticket to the “CSI: Crime Scene Insects” and Butterfly Rainforest exhibits.

The offer is available to all UF students, faculty and staff presenting a valid Gator 1 ID when purchasing a ticket. Other museum exhibits are free and open to the public.

“While we are the state of Florida’s natural history museum, our researchers have partnered internationally on prominent studies and field work,” said Douglas Jones, museum director and curator of invertebrate paleontology. “We are happy to celebrate international education because of its role in the museum’s research efforts, including our considerable teaching and student mentoring activities.”

The Florida Museum has five permanent exhibits: “Butterfly Rainforest,” “Florida Fossils: Evolution of Life & Land,” “Northwest Florida: Waterways & Wildlife,” “South Florida People & Environments” and the newly opened “Museum Collections are the Library of Life.”

The museum is also displaying five temporary exhibits: “CSI: Crime Scene Insects,” “The Blue Path: Protecting Florida’s Springs,” “The Beetles: A Skeleton Crew,” “Symbiosis: Butterflies and Plants,” and “Dugout Canoes: Paddling through the Americas,” which opened Nov. 13 with “Museum Collections are the Library of Life.”
