Libraries host activities for International Education Week

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries are sponsoring activities in support of International Education Week, hosted by the International Center, Nov. 15-19.

Nov. 15
3 p.m. • Smathers Library, Room 1A
”From ‘Commune’ to International Community: a Writer’s Journey from a Kibbutz Childhood to a Scholarly Life in Florida”
Presentation by Avraham Balaban – Israeli UF faculty and award winning author

Nov. 16
1 to 2:30 p.m. • Plaza of the Americas, under the canopy
“Reading Around the World”
Bring your favorite English translation of foreign poems, stories, book excerpts, etc. to read aloud. For students, faculty, staff and visitors. Preregistration not required.

Nov. 17
2 to 4 p.m. • Smathers Library, 4th floor, Latin American Collection
“A Day Without a Mexican” (Día sin Mexicanos). Latin American film, based on “A day without a Mexican, a mockumentary” by Yarelli Arizmendi and Sergio Arau

Nov. 17
11 a.m. to noon • Health Science Center, Room C2-41a
Darwin: Rewriting the Book of Nature. Michele Tennant, Health Science Center Libraries, will be give an informal Galapagos Travelogue presentation. The Health Science Center will host the National Library of Medicine’s traveling exhibit “Rewriting the Book of Nature: Charles Darwin and the Rise of Evolutionary Theory” from the end of October through the beginning of December.
