WUFT to show local tribute to veterans

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Public television station Florida’s 5 WUFT-TV will present a special rebroadcast of “A Musical Salute to America’s Veterans” at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The one-hour program features the Buchholz High School bands in performance at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Maj. Scott Gidry, deputy commander of the United States Air Force Band, serves as guest conductor of the concert, which includes a special tribute to Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Philip Clark, a 2008 Buchholz High graduate who died May 17 in Afghanistan after being hit with shrapnel while on foot patrol.
The response from the community in regards to the Veterans Day tribute was so positive and because so many viewers asked if the program could be repeated, Florida’s 5, WUFT-TV has committed to another primetime airing of the show this Sunday night.
Viewers used words like “incredible,” “wow” and “very touching” in describing the impact the program had on them.
The program also features comments from military veterans in the North Florida area.
Florida’s 5 WUFT-TV can be seen on Cox Cable Channel 3 and Channel 703 in Gainesville.
