Famed lawyer Dershowitz to speak at UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Distinguished civil liberties lawyer Alan Dershowitz will speak at 8 p.m. March 2 at the Phillips Center for Performing Arts as ACCENT Speaker’s Bureau, Hillel and the Jewish Student Union celebrates Jewish Awareness Month.
Dershowitz is a renowned lawyer, having represented celebrities such as O.J. Simpson and Mike Tyson. He was the youngest full time professor at Harvard Law School at age 28.
In addition, Mr. Dershowitz is a commentator on the Arab-Israeli conflict, and has written numerous books on the topic. Most recently, he has joined the legal team of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.
Dershowitz will be holding a conversation forum with the President of the University of Florida, Dr. Machen, followed by a Q&A.
Doors will open at 7:15 p.m., and Dershowitz will begin speaking at 8 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, courtesy of ACCENT and Student Government.
ACCENT Speaker’ s Bureau prides itself on being the largest, student-run speaker’ s bureau in the nation. For the past 41 years, ACCENT has brought prominent, controversial, and influential speakers to the University of Florida.
Speakers are not paid with tax or state dollars. ACCENT’ s funding comes from activity fees, which students pay specifically to fund out-of-the-classroom experiences.
