GAINESVILLE, Fla. — With the recent escalation in worldwide tensions, the University of Florida is heightening security in and around Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for Saturday’s Orange & Blue football game.
Additional law enforcement officers will be on hand for the game and officers will be monitoring a wider perimeter around the stadium. These measures augment a security plan that the University of Florida Police Department put in place several years ago for large events.
UF officials continue to work closely with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to conduct risk assessments of this and other events on campus. These efforts are ongoing and will continue in the future.
The university reminds fans and visitors to pay attention to their surroundings and to report suspicious activities to the police. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to their gates and to avoid bringing items prohibited in the stadium such as backpacks or large handbags. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. for the noon game.
Information on expected game day behavior and a list of prohibited items can be found on www.gatorzone.com.
