UFPD, Shands offer bike rodeo for children

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida Police Department and Shands Hospital For Children invite the public to attend their Bike Rodeo and Summer Safety Fair July 9.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at SW 16th Avenue and Archer Road, just west of the ShandsCair Helicopter pad. There will be parking available in the parking garage (Garage 9) nearby.
There will be equipment displays provided by other local law enforcement agencies as well as bicycle obstacle courses, riding games, bean bag toss, tours of an ambulance and helicopter, K-9 demonstrations and a vehicle heat display. Safety awareness will be emphasized.
Children ages 5 to 14 will receive a free helmet while supplies last, and a certified safety officer will be available to ensure it fits properly. There will also be other giveaway items provided by local bicycle shops that will have staff available to assist and answer questions.
