August 18, 2011
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida officially launched its mobile Web application today, giving students, faculty and staff the ability to access to a host of online features anytime and anywhere using a mobile device.
UF Mobile Web — m.ufl.edu — allows users to:
- Access a live interactive map searchable by building name or number.
- Check out a constantly updated calendar of events.
- Keep in touch with faculty and staff.
- Know where an RTS bus is and when it will arrive.
- Contact the UF police department or the operator in two clicks.
- Receive UF Alerts the instant they’re issued.
- Link to UF sites such as GatorZone, ISIS and e-Learning.
UF officials soft launched UF Mobile Web in June, and the site has had nearly 46,000 unique visitors since then.
To use UF Mobile Web, launch the browser on your web-capable mobile device and go to m.ufl.edu. UF Mobile Web requires users to have a Web/data plan from their carriers or a Wi-Fi connection.
The UF Mobile Web was developed using the Mobile Web Open Source Project v2.5.0, a fork of version 0.9 of MIT Mobile Web.
