UF helping students find, enhance their strengths
September 14, 2011
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida is helping students discover, develop and utilize their strengths to achieve academic and personal success during UF Strengths Week, now through Friday.
Several campus departments, including the Warrington College of Business Administration, the UF Career Resource Center, the Center for Leadership & Service, and the Dean of Students Office have teamed together to provide programming centered on the Gallup organization’s StrengthsQuest assessment, which provides students with their top five strengths as well as information on how to develop them.
“Understanding how their unique set of strengths can benefit them, the teams in which they work, and achieve their career goals is a real benefit students will get from the Strengths Week,” said Josh Funderburke, assistant director of career and leadership programs at the Warrington College of Business Administration.
Programs for the week will include using strengths in leadership positions, developing a strong personal brand, and resume writing and interviewing. The week will end with a keynote presentation from Tracy Riggins, manager of Training & Development for RTI Biologics, describing how strengths are used for employee development and engagement.
In addition to programs for students, two events will target faculty and staff to educate them about their own strengths and to encourage them to use the StrengthsQuest assessment in their work with students. The listing of events is at: http://warrington.ufl.edu/sb/leadership/themeweek.asp.
