November 10, 2011

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Provident Resources Group and Capstone Companies hosted a grand-opening ceremony Thursday for The Continuum, a housing community designed for University of Florida graduate/professional students, faculty and staff.

The ceremony, held at the community in midtown Gainesville, included remarks by Jeff Jones, executive vice president of Capstone Development Corp.; Norb Dunkel, UF’s associate vice president for student affairs; Dave Kratzer, UF’s interim vice president for student affairs; and Thomas Hawkins, Gainesville City Commissioner. Guided tours of the facility were given.

A $60 million development, The Continuum opened for occupancy in August. It is located on the site of the former First Baptist Church, between downtown Gainesville and the UF campus. The former sanctuary was retained and is being adapted as a part of the community.

The community offers a total of 571 beds with studio, one-, and two-bedroom unit options. Community features include an on-site parking garage, specialty retail, fitness center, business center, and outdoor pool and deck. The Continuum will also participate in the Gainesville Regional Utilities Solar Feed-In Tariff program with the installation of a 250.5-kilowatt solar generation facility on the upper parking deck.

“The Continuum is a state-of-the-art graduate residential community custom-designed and operated with and for the University of Florida to support the university’s strategic goals of growing its graduate, professional school and research programs, enhancing the recruitment and retention of top-flight graduate students, faculty, staff and researchers, and providing a high-quality live, learn and work environment for this more mature and serious segment of the UF population,” said Jeff Jones, the Capstone executive project manager for the Continuum in his remarks during the ceremony. Jones added, “ The graduate students living at The Continuum have found the sophisticated studio, one-and two-bedroom units to be ideal for the graduate student lifestyle, and the location to be excellent and getting better – particularly with the nearby development of Innovation Square, where dozens of technology companies will partner with UF research units, employing hundreds if not thousands of graduate and faculty researchers.”

Capstone On-Campus Management is providing day-to-day operations of The Continuum. The Continuum staff works closely with the UF department of housing and residence education and the graduate programs at UF to provide a living environment that is conducive to learning and academic success. The community atmosphere that is provided by the staff and the exclusive nature of the leasing procedures provide the students who live at The Continuum a more mature, academically driven living environment.
