GAINESVILLE, Fla. — At Wednesday’s Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards, University of Florida Performing Arts was named 2011 Best Overall Small Business.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary season, UFPA is a nonprofit organization focused on enriching its community through programs including: AIM Together, which brings artists from the UFPA season to Shands Healthcare facilities for performances and short residencies; Partners Program, which funds the distribution of free tickets to UFPA-presented performances for the physically and mentally challenged, at-risk students and other underserved populations; and School-Day Performances, which offers free performances to students in Alachua County and beyond, giving many students a chance to experience live performing arts in a professional hall for the first time.
UFPA oversees four venues: Phillips Center for Performing Arts, University Auditorium, Baughman Center and Squitieri Studio Theatre. Its mission is to ignite cultural and artistic connections for the students, residents and visitors of North Central Florida.
