February 16, 2012
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Institute of Black Culture at the University of Florida will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Friday with a dinner in the Arredondo Café at the Reitz Student Union.
The event will feature keynote speaker Lori Patton, associate professor in the Higher Education Program at the University of Denver and a contributing editor of “Culture Centers in Higher Education: Perspectives on identity, theory and practice,” which Stylus Publishing released in 2010. UF President Bernie Machen and Gainesville Mayor Craig Lowe also will speak.
Tickets are no longer available for the event.
“The event is a great opportunity to celebrate the legacy of the institute of black culture at the University of Florida,” said John Johnson, IBC director.
The IBC serves as a resource to the campus community by providing educational and social programming focused on black culture. The organization also functions as a support network for many African-American students.
The event is presented in collaboration with the Florida Invitational Step Show, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, and the Association of Black Alumni.
