UF student to attempt Guinness World Record in joggling

July 23, 2012

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida electrical engineering major Matthew Feldman will attempt to break a Guinness World Record in joggling — running and juggling — at 7 p.m. Friday at the Rice University running track in Houston.

He is conducting nanomaterials research at Rice this summer.

Feldman is attempting to break the world record time for jogging one mile while simultaneously juggling five objects. According to Guinness, American Bill Gillen holds the current record with a time of 7 minutes, 41 seconds. Feldman has broken the record in practice but will make the official attempt at Rice as part of his efforts to raise awareness and money for Isatome, a community in the town of Minamisanriku (pronounced mee-NAH-mee-san-ree-ku) affected by last year’s Japanese tsunami.

Feldman, whose hometown is Wellington, Fla., is going into his third year at UF with minors in physics and Japanese. He is also doing robotics research in Scott Banks’ biomechanics lab at UF and plans to take the fall semester off to do an internship at SpaceX, a private company that designs, manufactures and launches rockets and spacecraft.
