Intersection of NW Eighth Avenue and NW 22 Street to close Aug. 5
August 2, 2012
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The intersection of NW Eighth Avenue and NW 22nd Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, with all traffic on both roads rerouted to other streets.
Individual lane closures on NW Eighth Avenue and NW 22nd Street will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, and continue through mid-day.
The closures are the final stage of a water main upgrade project, which will improve water flow to residents and increase the number of fire hydrants in the area. Workers will connect the new main to existing infrastructure on Sunday and repave the affected roadway on Monday.
NW 22nd Street has been closed to through traffic from University Avenue to NW Eighth Avenue since June. All sections of NW 22nd Street and NW Eighth Avenue are expected to reopen when work is completed Monday afternoon.
Motorists are encouraged to use NW 34th Street, NW 18th Terrace or NW 17th Street to avoid the closures and any related traffic delays.
