Gator football fans can pledge money for libraries
September 17, 2012
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida’s George A. Smathers Libraries, along with the support of head football coach Will Muschamp, encourage Gator football fans to help maintain and grow the services of the libraries by pledging for every touchdown scored in the 12-game season.
Pledges can range from 25 cents to $100 or more. Those who pledge can even designate which library or collection they would like their donation to support or choose to fund the libraries’ greatest needs.
Based upon the 2011 Florida football results, a total of 34 touchdowns were scored in the regular season of 12 games. At $1 per touchdown, a 2011 pledge would have been $34.
Funds received from the “Academic Sports Challenge” will allow the Smathers Libraries to purchase library resources to meet learning and instructional needs of all students, including student athletes and scholarship recipients. Last year the Football Challenge raised approximately $3,000.
