Homecoming parade applications now available, due Oct. 1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Applications are now being accepted for participation in the University of Florida’s Homecoming parade Nov. 9.
The application is available at http://gatorgrowl.org/applications/ under the parade tab. The parade will begin at noon at the intersection of Gale Lemerand Drive and West University Avenue, and will continue down University to Main Street in downtown Gainesville. Preceding the parade will be the annual SunTrust Gator Gallop run.
The theme for Homecoming 2012 is “United We Growl” in honor of Veterans’ Day weekend. More than 100,00 spectators are expected to fill University Avenue to celebrate and enjoy the 89th annual Homecoming Parade.
The Gainesville community and others are encouraged to sign up and enter a float. The fee is $150 for businesses, $100 for nonprofit organizations and free for student organizations and veteran organizations. Applications are due Oct. 1 to Zachary Adler at Zachary.adler@ufhomecoming.org.
This year’s Homecoming Parade will showcase bands, floats and special guests from University of Florida student organizations, many community groups and local and state dignitaries. The parade’s grand marshal will be announced in the coming weeks.
