More than 300 employers expected at Career Showcase
September 10, 2012
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Facing a competitive job market, University of Florida students and alumni have an opportunity to meet hundreds of prospective employers during the Career Showcase Oct. 2-3 in the O’Connell Center.
The fair, hosted by the university’s Career Resource Center, will feature about 300 employers spanning technical and non-technical industries. Fields such as accounting, health care, communications, education and sales are represented on the first day, while students who are interested in computer science, engineering, information systems and research are featured on the second day.
“The diversity of fields and industries at Career Showcase is evident by the range of companies that participate in our event,” said Heather White, director of the Career Resource Center. “There are truly opportunities at Showcase for all majors, and we encourage students from every discipline to attend. Many companies focus on transferable skills more so than specific fields of study to find the right candidate.”
Employers such as Nielsen, MindTree Ltd., KPMG, Capital One, Macy’s, Schlumberger, and Toys “R” Us, are among those represented at this fall’s Career Showcase.
“There are hundreds of companies that are interested in UF students and actively seek out talented candidates from our campus. Whether a student or alumnus is seeking a full-time opportunity or internship, we highly recommend participation in Career Showcase due to the enormous volume of opportunity in one centralized location,” White said.
More than 6,000 students are expected to attend Career Showcase this semester. For many, this will be their first time participating in an event of this magnitude. To help with preparation, students are encouraged to attend CRC workshops and services leading up the event. They include Career Fair Boot Camp to Extreme Resume Makeover and are tailored to teach students how to maximize career fair opportunities.
Students interested in learning more about Career Showcase and related workshops can connect with the CRC through Facebook (Facebook.com/UFCRC) and Twitter (@UF_CRC, #careershowcase) to receive the latest updates about events and participating employers. On Sept. 28, the CRC will host a special Showcase edition of ‘CRC Power Hour’, a twitter chat, focusing on impressive resumes (#crcpowerhour).
Career Showcase is open only to UF students and alumni with a Gator1 ID card. For more information about Career Showcase, please visit www.crc.ufl.edu or contact the CRC at 352-392-1601.
