October 19, 2012
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — This year’s University of Florida Homecoming pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the Phillips Center for Performing Arts.
In its 89th year, the pageant is one of the oldest traditions at UF and highlights outstanding men and women on campus.
This year, UF employees and Gainesville community members will judge the pageant. UF employees include Norb Dunkel, associate vice president for student affairs; Steve Orlando, director of the UF News Bureau; and Kim Pace, assistant provost and director of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs in the Office of the Provost. Community members judging the pageant are DeeJay Hellrung, Christopher Johnson, Carrie Parker-Warren, music artist Chris McCarty and Carol Muschamp.
Presale tickets are $10 and can be purchased from a pageant contestant or in the Florida Blue Key office before the show. Tickets can be purchased at the door the night of the event for $12.
The scoring of the pageant consists of interviews held prior to the pageant, Gator game day casual wear round and formal wear round. The finalists will each answer a question that will factor into their scores.
This year there are 40 female contestants and 11 male contestants. The Homecoming Court, top three men and top three women, will be announced at the pageant. The Homecoming Queen and King are announced in front of thousands of spectators at the Homecoming pep rally, Gator Growl.
“Each year, exceptional leaders on the University of Florida’s campus are showcased for the hard work and talents that they have brought to this campus,” said Olivia Kirchman, Homecoming pageant director.
