Museum invites families to Halloween event Wednesday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Museum of Natural History will screen the 1966 classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” during its family-friendly, candy-free Halloween event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The free event at the museum, 3215 Hull Road on the University of Florida campus, complements the museum’s current temporary exhibit, “Peanuts…Naturally: Charlie Brown and Friends Explore Nature.” All attendees dressed as their favorite “Peanuts” character will receive free admission into the exhibit.

The event includes door prizes, activity stations, face painting, a display of pumpkins decorated or carved by museum staff and volunteers and more. “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” will be shown every 30 minutes in the McGuire Gallery.

“We have a whole variety of activities geared toward both older and younger people, so everyone be a part of the Halloween fun,” said Amanda Harvey, Florida Museum education assistant.

The event is candy-free, but at each station, attendees can receive a treat of some kind.

“Though it is candy-free, it is not treat-free,” said Catherine Carey, Florida Museum public programs coordinator. “The event lets you explore your fears and learn that maybe nighttime, bats, spiders, skeletons and snakes aren’t as scary as you thought.”
