Program looks at Zora Neal Hurston's book

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida will mark the 75th anniversary of Zora Neal Hurston’s book, “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” this Friday.
A program titled “The Legacy of Zora Neal Hurston: Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Their Eyes Were Watching God” will be held at Smathers Library and Ustler Hall.
Sponsored by the Center for Women’s Studies and Gender Research and the George A. Smathers Libraries, the program is organized by Judith W. Page and Florence M. Turcotte.
Here is the tentative schedule:
11:15 a.m., Smathers Library, Room 1A, exhibit of materials for the Hurston collection.
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Smathers Library, Room 1A, “Jump at the Sun,” a film written and produced by Kristy Andersen, introduced by professor Faye V. Harrison, departments of anthropology and African American studies.
2 to 4 p.m., Ustler Hall Atruim, roundtable discussion and reception
Moderator: Florence E. Babb, Vada A. Yeomans Professor of Women’s Studies. Participants: history professor Jack E. Davis; Paul Ortiz, director, Samuel Proctor Oral History Program; professor Marilyn Thomas-Houston, department of anthropology and African American studies program; and English professor Debra Walker King. This event is free and open to the public.
