Students have several ways to vote Nov. 6

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida students who are registered to vote in Alachua County will not have far to travel to vote on Nov. 6.

UF’s Gator Coalition for Civic Engagement and other student organizations helped register more than 3,000 students to vote in Alachua County this year, said Shelby Taylor of the Bob Graham Center for Public Service.

All students and their spouses residing in UF undergraduate residence halls, Corry Village, Diamond Village, Maguire Village and University Village South will vote in Precinct 31 at the Reitz Student Union.

Residents of Tanglewood Village will vote in Precinct 59 at the Paramount Plaza Hotel, 2900 SW 13th St.

Precincts 5, 23, 25, 26, 36 and 59 are adjacent to campus.
The polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and voters must present photo and signature ID or vote using a provisional ballot.

Students can also participate in early voting if they cannot make it to their precincts on Nov. 6. Early voting is an eight-day period that begins Oct. 27 and ends Nov. 3. Students who choose this option can vote at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 12 SE 1st St., Millhopper Branch Library, 3145 NW 43rd St., or Tower Road Branch Library, 3020 SW 75th St., from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on those days.

Another alternative to voting on Election Day is to request an absentee ballot. The request deadline to have absentee ballots mailed is 5 p.m. Oct. 31, and absentee ballots are due back to the Supervisor of Elections Office at 111 SE 1st Ave. by 7 p.m. Nov. 6.

Students who are not registered to vote in Alachua County can obtain an absentee ballot from the county where they are registered.

The last day to register to vote in Florida was Oct. 9.
