GAINESVILLE, Fla. — “Testimony” displays the letters and papers of Nazi-targeted victims and gives proof that the aftershock of Holocaust, even generations later, still hits survivors.
The exhibit, which continues through June 14, can be seen in the Smathers Library East Gallery on tje second floor. It’s open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and is free for the public.
The exhibit includes previously unseen letters of a family murdered by the Nazis at Ninth Fort and the autobiography of Emanuel Merdinger, a concentration camp survivor and former University of Florida professor.
Photos of the concentration camps taken by the U.S. Signal Corps, newspapers, memoirs and artistic responses created by Florida-based artists can also be viewed.
“Testimony” is curated by Rebecca Jefferson, Head of the Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica. She will speak at the gallery at 6 p.m. Thursday.
