GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Here are the releases the University of Florida’s media relations office expects to send next week, subject to change:

Monday, Aug. 19
HUB IMPACT – New numbers show the Florida Innovation Hub at UF has already contributed to the creation of 250 jobs in its first 20 months.

WILD HORSES — Because Americans objected years ago to federal officials rounding up and selling wild horses for glue, today they round them up and any that can’t be sold or adopted go to long-term holding facilities. And it’s costing a ton to pen up these symbols of Americana: captive wild horses (sounds like an oxymoron, no?) will cost the U.S. more than $1 billion from now until 2030 unless federal officials can get a little free rein to change management approaches. UF/NASA COLLABORATIVE PROJECT — Mechanical and aerospace engineering and astronomy faculty members at the University of Florida have been selected to work with NASA’s Langley Research Center on advances in small satellite constellation technology and guiding systems.

ALGAE — Many scientists see great promise in algae as a new source of oil – a sustainable, environmentally sound way to break the world’s fossil fuel dependence. Two UF/IFAS researchers have found that algae, once deprived of nitrogen, begins producing lipids far more quickly than previously believed.
