Week of Culture assemblies start Wednesday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida Multicultural & Diversity Affairs, Student Activities and Involvement, and Student Government will host the 2013 Welcome Assemblies during the Week of Culture, Aug. 21-30.
The assemblies introduce first-year and continuing students to the resources, opportunities, departmental and academic support at UF while welcoming students, faculty, staff and the entire community back for a new academic year. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from various support offices and departments on campus that will assist them with being successful. Students will also have an opportunity to learn more about student organizations that are available to get involved in on campus.
Events start with Culture Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Reitz Student Union Rion Ballroom. On Friday, the Asian American Student Assembly will hold its commemorative 20th anniversary in the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts at 6 p.m. Black Student Assembly will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. On Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, and Ally Welcome Assembly will take place in the Reitz Student Union Grand Ballroom. The Women’s Welcome Assembly will follow the next day at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 in the Reitz Student Union Grand Ballroom. Wrapping up the Week of Culture is the Hispanic Latino Student Assembly at 6 p.m. Aug. 30 in the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
