Advice, safety zones offered to students going to Saturday’s game
October 31, 2013
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida Division of Student Affairs reminds students going to Jacksonville this weekend for the Florida-Georgia football to be smart and stay safe.
With the tremendous number of visitors, cell phone service may not be consistent, causing phones to run out of power more quickly than usual. To conserve battery, students are urged to limit phone calls. Instead of calling, make plans to meet friends at a set time and location if groups become separated. As an extra precaution, students should carry a printed copy of the address where they’re staying, as well as friends’ phone numbers and other important information.
Other reminders of ways to stay safe:
1. Stay in groups
2. Stay in high-traffic areas
3. Choose a designated driver
4. Take a cab or free trolley
5. Act responsibly
6. Go to a Sideline Safety Zone location if assistance is needed.
The Sideline Safety Zones are operated by City of Jacksonville and will provide assistance before, during and after the game. Students can find basic medical help, first aid, transportation, directions, telephone service, food, water, coffee and more. Students who request assistance at the zones for themselves or their friends will not be subject to legal action on alcohol issues.
