UF conference focuses on online learning in higher education

WHAT: “Online Learning and the Future of Higher Education” is a two-day conference presented by the University of Florida’s Provost Office and the Bob Graham Center for Public Service to make the university community aware of the importance of UF Online, a four-year online program launching in January.
WHEN: Today, Dec. 3, and Wednesday, Dec. 4. It starts with a keynote address by Sanjay Sarma, director of digital learning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, at 6 p.m. today. Discussions and workshops on Dec. 4 start at 9 a.m. and continue through 3:30 p.m.
WHO: Will Weatherford, speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, will speak at 12:45 p.m. Dec. 4. Weatherford, a champion of the legislation that mandated the online track at UF, will discuss the impetus behind the expanded funding for online education by the Florida Legislature. Other conference participants include UF Provost Joe Glover, Georgia Tech professor Richard DeMillo, UF Associate Provost for Teaching and Technology Andy McCollough and UF faculty.
WHERE: Today’s keynote address will be in University Auditorium. The Dec. 4 lunch will be in a nearby tent. Workshop sessions the afternoon of Dec. 4 will be in the Music Building.
